Guided imagery is an exercise - like a work out for a weak muscle. In a nutshell, trauma impairs the thinking brain. Imagery strengthens the attention to focus.
You are using imagery when you replay a traumatic event or fantasize about the future. When you replay a traumatic event, it generates the same responses (networks) that were activated during the traumatic event (which only strengthens the unhelpful pattern and symptoms).
Using this knowledge, we use imagery to activate different parts of the brain which allow you to create healthier responses that generate healing.
